Snetterton start for Porsche Open

A double-header meeting at Snetterton on Sunday (10 April) will kick off the season in the Michelin Porsche Open Series. With one qualifying session and two races within the day, it will be a busy start for teams and drivers.Heading the entry is Richard Chamberlain in his magnificent 935, which has been nigh-on unstoppable in the Open Series over recent seasons. Snetterton is also Chamberlain's home track, so he will be immensely difficult to beat. However, that is a task that Rupert Lewin continues to tackle with his stunning 996GT2-R and, like Chamberlain, he has been testing at Snetterton in recent weeks.Lewin's team has also carried out some more development on the 996, so this season he could be even closer to Chamberlain than before and Snetterton is one of the tracks that really suits the 996.Joining Chamberlain and Lewin in class one is Keith Butcher in his ex-Cirtek Motorsport 911GT3RTS. Although new to Porsche racing, Keith has bags of experience in other classes and his progress with the former FIA GT Championship car will be watched with great interest. Meanwhile, Paul Howells has stepped up to class one in a 993GT2R and has marked himself out as another podium contender.Racing newcomer Mark Albutt (911GT3 Cup) and Paul Hogan (996 Turbo) head the entries for class two, while the earlier Supercup car of father and son Mike and Steve Burtt should set the pace in class three. At the time of writing, it was uncertain if Mike or Steve would race the car at Snetterton or even if they planned to tackle one race each! Lining up against the Burtt car will be the 944 Turbo of Wayne Jackson. Finally, the class four pack of near-identical 944s will again deliver some great action in their race within a race. Charles Winterhalder and Mark Harris head the entry, although Alex Eacock should set the pace if his participation is confirmed.
