Astra-nomical for Ingram
Having spent the last fifteen years out of motorsport, Jon Ingram must be feeling like he has never been away from the sport. Winning the recent Wold Construction North Humberside Forest Rally on Saturday 2nd April, a qualifying round of the British Trials and Rally Drivers Association Championship, he also added the Astra Stages National Rally over honours during Saturday 9th April. The Altrincham driver was partnered in his Ford Focus World Rally Car by last years Astra winning co-driver John Roberts. Ingram who has improved on every event contested since he acquired the Focus WR Car feels he is finally getting to grips with the powerful machine."After a fifteen year sabbatical I think I have finally grasped the right technique in four wheel drive machines, which has been completely alien to me."Ingram started well despite having to adapt to his new passenger, opening up an early lead of nine seconds over the first two tests. As the day progressed Ingram started to suffer from a long standing back injury, a trapped nerve causing severe discomfort and a lack of feeling in his left hand.Ingram and Roberts continued throughout the rally and even under such conditions, Ingram and Roberts completed the final test 1.01 seconds quicker than last years winner, Andy Burton, showing the true character and speed of this years event. "Its been a rewarding two weeks with the two wins, to come here and beat one of Britain's up and coming stars of the future has been very satisfying and will also set me up for the next event in the calendar."Jon will now start his preparations for the opening round of the Kwik-Fit Pirelli British Rally Championship, the Rally of Wales on 23rd/24th April. The Dolgellau based rally will take competitors into classic Mid Wales forests of Dyfi, Hafren and Myherin over the two days with 144 demanding competitive miles in store.
