Formula Woman goes global

Women race drivers from around the world invited to compete in UK TV race series.

Following on from the highly successful Formula Woman championship in the UK, which took 16 novice women and turned them into fully-fledged racing drivers, in 2005 Formula Woman will go global.

Formula Woman is proud to announce the “Nations Cup” for this summer – a UK based series in 16 specially prepared Caterham Seven racecars.

The “Nations Cup” is open to all experienced women racing drivers who will compete in four doubleheader weekends in the Caterham Roadsport B 1.6 K series Academy race cars, which produce 120bhp.  In addition to thrilling close race action, Motors TV will be transmitting five one-hour programmes through 26 countries one week after each race, with numerous repeats.  Hay Fisher Productions will produce these programmes for Motors TV.

Any woman with a current race licence is eligible, and drivers from around the world have been invited to register.  The series will be run as “Arrive & Drive” and will be priced under £20,000 ( 30,000 Euro or 40,000 US Dollars)  per driver to include registration, entries, testing, race suit and use of the fully race prepared cars.

The series will be organised by Formula Woman and the British Automobile Racing Club (BARC) and the schedule is as follows;

30/31st July – Brands Hatch (Kent) – Rounds 1 & 213/14th August – Pembrey (South Wales)– Rounds 3 & 427/28th August – Rockingham (The Midlands)– Rounds 5 & 610/11th September – Snetterton (Norfolk) – Rounds 7 & 8

In addition to the exciting race programme and excellent media exposure, the series winner will drive away with a Cosworth powered 200bhp Caterham Seven CSR 200 worth over £31,000. This fantastic prize is capable of over 140mph and can achieve 0-60 in 3.7 seconds.

Bruce Goddard from the MSA has said the following:“This is an MSA approved series.  It fits with the policy of encouraging women into motorsport and we support the initiative whole heartedly”.

Ansar Ali – MD of Caterham Cars comments:“Caterham has a long and proud history in motorsport, and the Nations Cup is yet another example of why the Seven has become the most raced production car in the world. That the Caterham Roadsport was chosen for this exciting initiative endorses the fact that our cars are ideally suited to the task of providing fair, competitive, cost-effective and exciting club motorsport, for both men and women.”

This series has been specially designed to encompass eight races in just eight weeks to make it easier for foreign entrants to join the championship.
