Ramon Ferreyros will open his participation in the CODASUR 2005 championship on April 23 with one aim, to retain the South American Championship which he won last year. The second event in this years calendar, the XI Edition of the Rally del Guaira, to take place in the paraguayan city of Villarica, will be the scenario for Ramon’s first Rally on his way to attempting his second championship.
This years championship looks very atractive, specially for Perú, since the fifth round will be held in the mountains near the City of Huancayo, about 350 kilometers east of the country´s capital, Lima from August 5 to 7. This will be the first participation in Ramon´s professional career in an international event in his country, something all of his followers are looking forward with great interest.
One of the most talked about decisions taken up by our champion , is having chosen for the second consecutive year the car which gave him the championship last season, Subaru.”I trust the car because the symetrical 4x4 system makes it today, the worlds best rally car. We will be driving an Impreza Turbo and my navigator will be belgiums Pablo Herrero. We had already teamed up in 2002 in some WRC and European Championship events,” were coments given by Ramon .
The coverage by the international press will increase this year noticeably, because of the quality and high standards of the cars taking place , as well as drivers of world renown who will be participating. It has also become very atractive to the public and to the sponsoring companies.”I will be working very hard with maximum sacrifice towards my effort to win the title again.I know it will be complicated but we will give it a battle.”
The 2005 season will consist of eight events, two of them can be discarded by the teams,specially the ones with the worst results. Also, so as to be able to obtain points toward the championship, the crew must participate in a minimum of 50% of the calendar, that is to say four events total, three outside and one in his country of origin.
The difference this year is in the way points will be obtained. If participating in his country of origin the points obtained will be : 20 for first place,15 for second, 12 for third, and 10,8,6,4,3,2 and 1 for tenth place.
As a visitor that scale will be, in descending order : 24,18, 14, 12, 10, 7, 5, 4, 3, and 2.
