Lockie & McCormick victorious at Brands

Calum Lockie and Bo McCormick scored a remarkable victory in the two-hour EERC Britcar race at Brands Hatch on Saturday (16 April). Racing McCormick's Ferrari 360 against more powerful opposition, the duo had a perfect run to win the race overall."It was one of those races where every thing went our way from beginning to end," said Lockie after spraying the champagne on the podium.McCormick started the race and was able to avoid a multi-car accident at Druids on the opening lap that sidelined several leading cars. The casualties included the BMW M3 of David Leslie/Harry Handkammer and so immediately one of the Ferrari's major class rivals was out."Bo kept it safe, looked after the car and set a really good pace for the first hour," said Lockie, who took over for the second half of the race. "I got in and went for it. Then, one by one, the other cars started to break or fall off," said Calum after the race. With less than ten minutes to go, the Ferrari was leading its class by a comfortable margin and was running second overall to the Porsche 911 GT3 Cup of Bill Cameron/Kelvin Burt. With the Porsche more than half a lap clear, Calum was now concentrating on getting the car safely to the finish. But, with just six minutes to run, the Porsche suffered mechanical problems and was forced to retire."That left us with the overall lead! We had hoped for a class podium and maybe a top six overall finish," said Calum. "The team did a great job and the car preparation by Hargreaves Motorsport was meticulous. The car was perfect from beginning to end. A big vote of thanks is due to Bo and the team for an excellent result."McCormick and Lockie will team up again to race the Ferrari in the Britcar five-hour race at Snetterton on 21/22 May. Thanks are also due to the sponsors, 1st Class Transport of Milton Keynes.
