Win a chance to work in F1 with Altran

Altran Engineering Academy in search for the 'Outstanding Young Engineer of the Year' 2005.

Competition winner given unique opportunity to launch career with Renault F1 Team.

The Altran Engineering Academy, in partnership with Monster, The International Herald Tribune and the Renault F1 Team has launched a global search for this year's 'Outstanding Young Engineer of the Year'.

The competition, now in its second year, promises the chance of a lifetime. A six month work placement in Formula 1 with the Renault F1 Team, one of the most challenging engineering environments in the world.

This year's competition is international, so young engineers and scientists will be facing competitors from all over the world. The UK is one of eight world regions. UK based undergraduates and graduates will compete to win the UK regional final. The UK winner will then compete in the global grand final against seven other winners from across the world. The global grand final will take place at the Renault F1 factory at Enstone, Oxfordshire toward the end of July.

The overall winner will be the individual who presents the most innovative project for a technological improvement applicable to the design of a Formula 1 car. He or she will get the chance to work for six months as a full member of The Renault F1 Team at its factory in Enstone, complete with full salary, apartment and company car.

The Renault F1 Team employ the very best specialists in the fields of aerodynamics, power, performance engineering, vehicle dynamics, control systems, electronics, materials, transducers and fuel technology. They are the dream employer for an undergraduate or recent graduate interested in science and engineering.

Claude Emmanuel Boisson of Altran, says:

"Altran, together with Monster, The International Herald Tribune and the Renault F1 Team, believes that gifted young graduates with a desire for ambition should be given a chance to test their ability in a highly stimulating environment. Unfortunately, highly talented and ambitious young graduates are often undervalued and under-supported. They do not get the chance that they deserve.

"We want to give someone the opportunity to experience a great human adventure working at the edge of technical innovation.  The Altran Engineering Academy aims to provide fast track opportunities for talented young scientists and engineers around the world.  This annual award scheme offers invaluable, paid work experience in an exciting and highly competitive industry. An opportunity that is, in effect, impossible for young scientists and engineers to obtain through normal channels."

Last years winner, Mark Caldwell, says:

"It was one of my friends who showed me an article about the Altran Engineering Academy. I had graduated from Brooklands College almost a year before with a degree in motorsport engineering, and none of my job applications had come through. I thought it was an ideal opportunity to develop an idea for a new braking system I had in college."

The competition is open until May 27 2005. Details and entry forms are available at www.altran-academy.com
