Tony Christie to perform live at second Thunder Sunday on June 5th.
Tony Christie, who is currently riding high at number 1 for a 6th week in the UK charts, will be performing live at Rockingham at the second Thunder Sunday event of the year on Sunday 5th June.
The adrenalin pumping, white knuckle events, which combine American-style oval motor racing and live music events will see Tony Christie perform live to the Rockingham fans with his smash hit single, ‘(Is This The Way To) Amarillo’ as well as favourites from his greatest hits album; ‘Las Vegas’, ‘I Did What I Did For Maria’ and his 1999 hit ‘Walk Like A Panther’, penned by Pulp’s, Jarvis Cocker.
Tony was first on the British music scene in the 1970’s. He has since experienced a massive revival following by the British public after Peter Kay used ‘Is This The Way To)’ Amarillo single to raise money for Comic Relief.
Featuring alongside Tony Christie is the spectacular SCSA American style Stock Car racing. The cars are ready to launch into the second race of the series at what can only be described as the ultimate family day out.
“Rockingham promised to vary the type of music we offer this year after listening to requests from our fans for more variety both on and off the track,” said Rockingham CEO Joe Dickinson. “With Go West and Mark Owen headlining the 1st May event this weekend and now with Tony Christie, who is riding high in the charts at present, confirmed for 5th June, we are meeting the needs of a broad audience. These acts combined with more contemporary popular music, such as Rooster who will headline the August event, will ensure we give the fans the variety they have requested. We listen to our fans, because without them we are nothing and we always try to take their suggestions on board.”
Rockingham in Northamptonshire is the only venue in the UK to offer the adrenalin pumping American-style stock car racing, alongside live music featuring the UK’s leading music artists. Previous artists to have performed on the Rockingham stage, include, Busted, Girls Aloud, The Darkness, Lemar and Rachel Stevens, with more leading artists planned for 2005.
The SCSA Racing package consists of two races featuring theawesome 450bhp American style Stock Cars, along with the adrenalin pumping Pickup Trucks and other supporting track events. The races see the cars battle two or three-wide at speeds of up to 170mph around the banked 1.5-mile oval track. The 5.7-litre V8 American Stock Cars certainly offer an amazing spectacle, unique in the UK. As well as the racing and live music, there is yet more family entertainment at Rockingham.
