Race 2
The second race of the Barcelona event was full of excitement but resulted in unfortunate results for both Super Nova drivers. Barcelona is a difficult circuit for overtaking and Adam made an excellent start running in second position until the last lap when Piquet in 3rd, attempted to overtake, but collided with Adam, spinning him around, Adam managed to restart but dropped to finish in 6th Position. Giorgio started the 18-lap sprint race from 13th on the grid, he moved up the field due to accidents, but then experienced engine problems again and finally finished in 14th Place. A Stewards Enquiry regarding the Carroll / Piquet collision deemed it to be a racing incident. Super Nova are in joint 5th in the teams championship.
Giorgio Pantano (P14)
“I did not have a great start and I lost some positions, the car felt really good and the engine was performing well up until the safety car pulled in. Then the water temperature built up on the engine and I started to lose some power and started to drop down the field ”.
Adam Carroll (P6)
“The race was going well until Nelson Piquet Jnr tried a risky manoeuvre four corners from the end, there was not really enough room for him to shoot down the inside of me, and unfortunately forced me off into a spin, costing me valuable places and points! The car was good and consistent and the team did another great job this weekend. I am looking forward to the challenge of Monaco and we should have another good weekend”
Team Principal – David Sears
“Adam Carroll looked set for 2nd Place in today’s race until Nelson Piquet Jnr spun him off on the last lap. Adam recovered to finish in 6th Position but lost 4 points in the process. The drivers summoned a Stewards enquiry but Piquet escaped without a penalty. Giorgio Pantano had another miserable race, his engine started to over heat and he lost power in the last couple of laps dropping down to 14th, lets hope his luck will change in Monaco”.
Race 1
It was a clear sunny day here in Barcelona for the 1st race of Round 2. Having had to change an engine on Giorgio Pantano’s car the night before the team had worked hard to get both cars ready for today’s race and their results would of paid off if Pantano’s radio system had not of stopped working. Giorgio gained places from 17th but due to the radio system being down, he came in for an unscheduled stop and the team were not ready, therefore losing valuable time. It was an eventful race throughout and teammate Adam Carroll had also moved through the field quickly to 7th Position where he stayed for the rest of the race, Adam will start 2nd on the grid tomorrow.
Gianmaria Bruni (Coloni) took the lead at the start of the race and took victory followed closely by Scott Speed (Isport International) and Heikki Kovalainen (Arden).
Giorgio Pantano (P13)
“The start of the race was good, the car felt much better after yesterdays disastrous qualifying. We then had a problem with our pit stop, the radio didn’t work and I lost a lot of time and ended up 13th. I am feeling very disappointed and a little bit unlucky! ”.
Adam Carroll (P7)
“It was a long race, the car felt ok but I think it could be a little better, my pit stop went well and after that I had lots of grip on the front and less on the back so it was hard to get the balance right and I spun at one of the corners but kept it on the track. At least tomorrow I will be starting on the front row of the grid so I hope for another podium”
Team Principal – David Sears
“In an eventful race here at Barcelona today Adam Carroll managed to charge through from 12th position to 7th at the flag. Adam claimed some useful points and will start on the front row of the grid for tomorrows 30 minute Sprint Race. If the Super Nova team can find a little more time from the car, Adam has a good chance of winning tomorrows race. Giorgio Pantano looked to finish in 8th place from 17th when he came in for an unscheduled pit stop to change tyres. Unfortunately the radio system was not working and the Pit Crew were not ready, Giorgio stalled the car losing a whole lap time in the pit before setting off again to finish in 13th place. Hopefully his season of bad luck will stop soon and he will win races!”.
