CITGO Racing ready for Canadian challenge
For the second consecutive year, veteran road racer Jan Lammers will join the #2 CITGO Racing Team and team with Andy Wallace and Milka Duno in the 6 Heures du Circuit Mont-Tremblant. The trio teamed for the Mont-Tremblant and Watkins Glen six-hour events last season in their Pontiac Crawford posting fifth and seventh place finishes.
The 6 Heures du Circuit Mont-Tremblant will be the fifth race on the 2005 Grand American Rolex Sports Car Series season and the first of two six-hour events on the schedule. The Sahlen’s Six Hors of The Glen is scheduled for Sunday, June 12th at Watkins Glen (NY) International.
The #2 CITGO Racing Team will be looking for their first Rolex Series win of the 2005 season at the 2.65-mile, 15-turn road course near Mont-Tremblant, Quebec, Canada. However, a very competitive field and a challenging course stand in their way.
“After the disappointment of our Laguna Seca result (13th), I can’t wait to get to Mont-Tremblant to claim some more points for our CITGO Team,” Andy Wallace commented. “It’s a great race track with fantastic scenery and some elevation changes thrown in to make it challenging. Turn one is a thrill to drive around and a great place for the fans to watch from. It’s not an easy track to drive as there are several blind entries, but rewards you when you know it well.”
Duno will be making her second trip to the beautiful Canadian road course and hopes to build on their fifth-place finish last year.
“I raced at Mont-Tremblant for the first time last year and it was also the first time there for the CITGO Howard-Boss Motorsports Team,” Duno stated. “Because of this, we all had to learn a lot and learn it very quickly. Our driver lineup for this year’s race will be the same as last year with Jan Lammers joining me and Andy (Wallace). Hopefully, this will create added synergy when combined with what we and the team learned from the race last year. I know that we will be working very hard and I hope that we’ll deliver a podium finish for the team and CITGO.”
The Netherlands native Lammers will be making his second start in a CITGO Pontiac Crawford for Howard-Boss Motorsports this season. Lammers teamed with Wallace and NASCAR star Tony Stewart to pilot the #20 CITGO car to a third-place finish in the season-opening Rolex 24 At Daytona in February. Lammers led the Rolex 24 twice for a total of 85 laps, Wallace six times for 73.
“It’ll be great to race with Jan again,” longtime friend Wallace added. “We work well together and he always does an excellent job in the cockpit.”
The 6 Heures du Circuit Mont-Tremblant is set for an 11 a.m. ET start on Saturday, May 21st. The Speed Channel will provide live coverage of the event.
