GP2 Super Nova Qualifying Report

Qualifying for Round Three took place on the streets of Monaco this morning.  After finishing the thirty-minute free practice session in forth place (Pantano) and Carroll who had another new circuit to learn finished in seventeenth, the team were hopeful of good qualifying results. Giorgio settled for eighth position on the grid, unfortunately he encountered yellow flags towards the end of the session and had under-steer throughout qualifying. Adam had an excellent qualifying session today and finished in third place only 800th of a second behind Kovalainen (Arden) on Pole and Bruni (Coloni) in second place.

Giorgio Pantano 1:25.709. (P8)

“I am not really sure what has happened but it is not too good.  There are some problems with the car, which created too much under-steer, clearly Adam’s car is quick and performing well so we need to look into it before tomorrows race.  I am hopeful for a good result tomorrow.”

Adam Carroll 1:24.751. (P3)

“I am really happy with the results, its was a very good qualifying session, I think if I had another couple of laps I would of gained a few 10ths of second and claimed pole.  It was a shame the yellow flags were out!  On a circuit where overtaking is near enough impossible, I can’t afford any mistakes tomorrow, as I will lose time, it is down to the boys and our strategy.  The car is looking good for the race tomorrow and I know the team will do their best.

Team Principal – David Sears

“Adam Carroll had never been around Monaco before only in a rental car, he very nearly claimed Pole today, only 800th of a second behind Kovalainen. Adam starts 3rd on the grid for tomorrows race, it was an excellent effort from him.  Giorgio Pantano had too much under-steer in his car and also got held up on the weighbridge and lost five minutes near the end of the session, he ended up in 8th Place. Giorgio is capable of doing well tomorrow and at last collect some points for the Super Nova team.  The whole team are looking forward to an exciting race and are going to have an extremely quick pit stop after the disappointment from the last race”
