BLAST FROM THE PAST AT ARLINGTON STADIUM

Spedeworth South will turn the clock back to the glory days of Stock Car racing when a field of classic Stock Cars take to the track at Arlington Stadium at 2pm on Bank Holiday Monday, May 30th.

The classic Stock Cars will bring back memories of the days when petrol cost pennies rather than pounds a gallon and a Ford Pilot, old US automobile, or Model Y was the car of choice for those early daredevils who traded automotive blows at Arlington Stadium and the host of other tracks that were springing up to cater for the new form of all-action racing.

The veteran cars in action include several Ford Model Ys, Ford Pilots, a replica of local hero Eric Taylor’s 1961 Ford Popular in which the late star driver set a record five race wins in one meeting in 1963 (the record still stands today) and an impressive 7.4 litre 1941 Pontiac Silver Streak.

Fans will also have the chance to meet some of the pioneer drivers of the sport as veteran drivers will be at the meeting to talk to about the early days of Stock Car racing.

Modern day racing action will be provided by the Superstox. Expect the action to be fast and furious as the drivers go all out to win the Southern Championship on the day.

More metal bashing is on the cards when the armoured Stock Cars take to the circuit. Built for speed and equipped with very purposeful front bumpers the Stock Cars always provide plenty of action as the drivers put their right foot down and the front bumper very firmly into the opposition.

To round off the day’s action-packed racing programme, the all-action Small Van Bangers will batter each other to scrap metal as the drivers go all out to be first under the chequered flag and wipe out the opposition at the same time.

With four great formulas in action, plus the chance to step back in time with the historic Stock Cars Arlington raceway (located off the A22, Hailsham, East Sussex) looks set to provide another action, packed, value for money’s day of racing.
