The Bronco DR, or Desert Runner, was introduced in 2022 as the wildest, most hardcore off-road racing Bronco Ford had ever built. The idea was to revisit the days of glory, when the Bronco took the formidable Baja 1000 by storm, winning its class in 1967, winning outright in 1969, taking additional class wins in 1971 and 1972, and taking 15 Baja 1000 Class 3 wins between 2002 and 2019 with the 1978-1995 Bronco. By the way, that outright win in 1969: the Bronco was the only 4x4 to ever win it outright. In a rare instance, Ford set out to build just 50 examples of the Desert Racer, and with the amount of engineering bestowed upon them, the MSRP of $295,000 actually seemed reasonable to many racing teams.

This 2023 Ford Bronco Desert Racer is equipped with the Baja Package, which includes spare wheels, racing brakes, dual batteries, a siren, a roof-mounted light bar, a grille bar, rock lights and a body-panel gel coat. The interior is fitted with a full roll cage that’s been welded in, an internal fire suppression system, two racing bucket seats with harnesses, a driver ventilation system, a radio and intercom, a data system and other specialty components that off-road racing enthusiasts will find very useful. The engine, No. 2508200088, features a racing exhaust, and the automatic transmission is No. 121744. Rolling on BF Goodrich tires, the Bronco is also equipped with a racing fuel cell and comes with an ATL safety fuel cells certification of compliance.
