Double victory for Amand in thrilling Porsche Carrera Cup Asia Fuji event

Porsche Carrera Cup Asia championship leader Marcus Amand once again proved his ability as he clinched victory in both races in the highly-entertaining Rounds 5 and 6 of the 2026 campaign at Fuji Speedway.

The BWT Shanghai Yonda driver lined up second for the first race at the Japanese track, behind Absolute Racing’s polesitter Marvin Klein. However, it was Ling Kang who led into Turn 1 from sixth on the grid, although the Origine Motorsport man would later receive a penalty for a jump start. Team Porsche Malaysia’s Naquib Azlan had a solid launch and was looking to clinch his first podium of the season, although contact from behind at Turn 1 put him into a spin and ended his race.

Amand moved ahead of Klein at the same time, and would take the lead at the end of Lap 1, with his French rival following him through not too long later. The duo would then pull away from the pack and Team Porsche New Zealand’s Marco Giltrap and Kang put on a show for the fans, with Giltrap eventually making a move stick for third.

Porsche Junior Amand crossed the line to take victory by just over a second, while Klein clinched his first podium of the season in second. Giltrap followed behind for third, continuing his strong start to the year.

Wang Zhongwei’s excellent campaign looked like it was set to continue when he finished first for Origine Motorsport, although he was later disqualified for a technical infringement, handing the victory to guest driver Kerong Li for OpenRoad Racing.

The tightly-contested Am class saw a new winner for the season, as Origine Motorsport’s Wu Jiaxin clinched victory. The top four in class were separated by less than two seconds, with championship leader Roy Tang second for 610 Racing, ahead of brothers Henry and Eric Kwong, both in Bergwerk colours.

A stunning final lap from OpenRoad Racing’s Christian Chia meant he would go from third to first in the Masters class, snatching the win from Modena Motorsports’ John Shen and Porsche Own Retail 69 Team’s Jacky Wu, who had to settle for second and third respectively.

Sunday’s race featured Azlan on pole for the fifth time in six races, as the young racer continues to display his incredible one-lap speed.

However, it would be Franco-Finn Amand who led through the first lap after a clever move up the inside. An early three-way battle for third saw Klein hang on to his position, before the race settled into a consistent rhythm.

A Safety Car re-bunched the pack following Shen’s retirement and at the restart, chasing his first win in the series, Azlan ferociously attacked Amand for the lead. The 2025 Porsche Carrera Cup France champion defended strongly, taking the chequered flag just three-tenths of a second ahead of his competitor to further extend his championship lead. Klein completed the podium, only a further six-tenths behind after a fascinating end to the race.

Zhongwei clinched Pro-Am victory to make it three for the season, while Li Hanyu impressed to take second for 610 Racing.

2024 Am champion Eric Kwong secured his first class win of the season to close in on Tang, who had a frustrating race, finishing in eighth, his first time out of the top-two in 2026. Henry would make it a Kwong 1-2, while Saturday’s winner Wu rounded out the podium in third.

Finally, reigning champion Adrian Dsilva returned to the top of the Masters podium for EBM, as Christian Chia and Jacky Wu crossed the line second and third.

The event in Fuji marked the halfway point of the 2026 Porsche Carrera Cup Asia season, with visits to Bangsaen Street Circuit, Sepang International Circuit and Marina Bay Circuit in Singapore still to come. The field will next be in track in Bangsaen, Thailand on 4-5 July.

Marcus Amand, BWT Shanghai Yonda: “It’s been a great season so far, we’re improving at every event and the team gave me a brilliant car this weekend so a huge thanks to them. We felt that we would be strong here due to our preparation, and the race pace was very strong. Today, Naquib was really quick and on my tail the whole race, so I had a lot of pressure from behind but I dealt with it well to secure the win. We still have some work to do in qualifying, which will be incredibly important next time out at Bangsaen.”

Wang Zhongwei, Origine Motorsport: “We had a strong weekend, crossing the line first on both days, although we lost the win from Saturday’s event post-race. It’s a shame, but this happens in motorsport. The most important thing is that we bounced back today, staying out of trouble and securing the win. I’m looking forward to being in Bangsaen, it’s a tough track and easy to hit the wall, so we’ll need to focus on finishing the race and scoring strong points.”

Eric Kwong, Bergwerk: “I was pleased to secure my first win of the season today, especially at such a great circuit. I’ve been working hard with Chris van der Drift to improve my driving, and I can feel it paying off already. Next up is Bangsaen, a track which is narrow, bumpy and challenging, but I’m excited for it!”

Adrian D’Silva, EBM: “It’s a great feeling to take the win after a tough weekend. We didn’t qualify where we wanted to, which made for two difficult races but today I was involved in some great battles with the other drivers in the Masters class, which was a lot of fun. Bangsaen will be another exciting event, with a huge crowd and a challenging circuit!”

Alexandre Imperatori, Porsche Carrera Cup Asia Manager: “It was a pleasure for Porsche Carrera Cup Asia to return to Fuji Speedway for the first time since 2019. It’s an incredible track with a great history, and the entire field was delighted to be racing here. We saw some fantastic racing across all classes this weekend and I want to congratulate all the winning drivers. Marcus Amand continued to show his ability with a double win, extending his championship lead, and we’re excited for the upcoming races to see if he can maintain this incredible standard. The title battles in Pro-Am, Am and Masters are also very intriguing, and with half of the season still to run, there’s plenty that can change! Now we head to Bangsaen in July after a break, another favourite of both drivers and fans, so we can’t wait to be back on track soon.”
