Leading an exceptional group of postwar offerings is the 1956 Jaguar D-Type (Estimate: $6,000,000 – $7,000,000), chassis XKD 552. A well-documented and unusually pure D-Type, this Jaguar is fresh to market after over 20 years in current ownership. It was delivered new to Kenya, where it was received by its first owner, rally driver John Manussis, in 1957. It was subsequently owned by jeweler Roger Lucas in Canada, and later by several noted collectors, including Eric Traber of Switzerland. Originally finished in Battleship Grey, the D-Type was restored by renowned Jaguar specialist Terry Larson, and subsequently became a frequent participant in his C- and D-Type tours. Under current ownership, XKD 552 has been campaigned in numerous important events, including Goodwood Revival, Le Mans Classic, the Colorado Grand, 1000 Miglia, Monterey Historics, and Monaco Historics. XKD 552 retains its original monocoque, front subframe, and brass data tag, and is accompanied by its original, matching-numbers engine.

The sale will also feature a 1955 Mercedes-Benz 300 SL Alloy Gullwing (Estimate: $4,000,000 – $6,000,000), the third of just 29 aluminum-bodied Gullwings built. Campaigned in period by famed racer and Woolworth heir Lance Reventlow, this Gullwing has been maintained by a list of dedicated collectors throughout the years, boasting a known history from new. It retains its original Rudge wheels, concave-star grille, and luggage set, and is undeniably one of the most important Mercedes-Benz Gullwings extant. Additional selections from the esteemed 300 SL line include a rare disc-brake, alloy-block 1962 Mercedes-Benz 300 SL Roadster (Estimate: $1,800,000 – $2,200,000) presented in a gorgeous Dunkelblau (Dark Blue, DB 904) interior, as well as a special-order 1957 Mercedes-Benz 300 SL Gullwing (Estimate: $1,700,000 – $2,000,000) presented in its original colors of Black over Red leather.

For collectors who prefer Italian flair, the rare and sophisticated 1953 Siata 208 CS Berlinetta (Estimate: $1,500,000 – $2,000,000) offers exceptional opportunity. One of only nine 208 CS Berlinettas bodied by Carrozzeria Balbo and one of just six known to survive, this Siata was recently restored by RX Autoworks and subsequently awarded First in Class and the Strother MacMinn Most Elegant Sports Car Trophy at the 2025 Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance®, in addition to displays at Concorso d’Eleganza Villa d’Este and the Concours of Elegance at Hampton Court Palace earlier this year.

Also on offer is a freshly rediscovered 1965 Ferrari 275 GTS (Estimate: $1,000,000 – $1,200,000, Without Reserve) originally finished in the attractive combination of Rosso Cina (China Red) with a beige leather interior, not publicly seen for over 40 years. Yet another 1960s garage find is the 1967 Bizzarrini 5300 GT Strada (Estimate: $500,000 – $800,000), among the most exotic Italian GT cars of its period. Retained by one Pontiac, Michigan-based owner for over 50 years, this largely complete, unrestored example is ideal for restoration or display.

Gooding Christie’s President, David Gooding, said: “We are proud to round out our first-ever Retromobile New York catalogue with yet another grouping of some of the most esteemed collector cars, which our specialists have spent months, if not years, pursuing. From the fascinating, international Jaguar D-Type to the Alloy Gullwing, as well as the Siata and the Italian garage finds, these vehicles present tremendous, once-in-a-lifetime opportunity, each of them with remarkably unique histories. We look forward to bringing them together for display and auction next month at the Javits Center and are enthused for what will surely be a benchmark-setting sale.”
