Jordan scores Brands Hatch victory

Andrew Jordan scored his first victory in circuit racing when he won the opening round of the Ginetta Winter Series at Brands Hatch on Saturday (5 November). Having scored no less than 68 wins in rallycross events in two seasons, Andrew recorded his landmark circuit racing victory in round one of the Ginetta Winter Series and followed it up with second place in Sunday's race.In qualifying on Saturday morning, the 16-year old student from Sutton Coldfield set the pace for much of the session, only to be headed by a tenth of a second late on by Tudor Alexander. Undeterred, Andrew pushed again and exactly matched his rival's lap time to ensure a place on the front row of the grid for the opening race. While Andrew made an average start, Alexander was judged to have jumped the start and was awarded a 10-second penalty as a result. Andrew quickly recovered from his modest start and was soon challenging Alexander for the lead. But, with the race leader defending hard, Andrew knew that sitting close behind in second place would give him victory once Alexander's penalty was applied. On Sunday there was heavy rain as the start of the Ginetta race approached. But Andrew made light of the conditions to storm clear of the pack on the opening lap and was leading by six seconds after five laps. However, standing water was a real problem and Andrew was caught out by a river of water running across the track at Clearways. His car spun, and he dropped to second behind Adrian Miller before rejoining. He soon caught Miller, but another big moment at Clearways cost him any chance of winning again and he duly claimed second place."I made a mistake at Clearways," admitted Andrew. "The conditions were really bad but I was pleased to be able to pull away in the early laps. Getting my first win on a circuit is really special."The concluding two rounds of the Ginetta Winter Series are at Croft (North Yorkshire) this Saturday (12 November) and Andrew will go head to head with Miller to decide the destiny of the championship title.Andrew Jordan is supported by John Guest, Team Dynamics, Bill Gwynne Rally School and Pirtek.
