Tom Chilton season finale in Istanbul

Tom’s last race outing of 2005 will be the final round of the LMES on the Grand Prix circuit near Istanbul this weekend……

Back in the ultra competitive Zytek LMP car again, Tom and his team mates have a fantastic opportunity to clinch the championship crown in Turkey. They are currently leading the LMES points table and a finish ahead of the French Pescarolo team will seal victory for Zytek in the series.

Still on a high from their dominant win at Laguna Seca a month ago, Zytek have entered Tom and Hayanari Shimoda to drive again. However an accident whilst competing in the Australian round of the A1GP series has raised doubts over Hayanari’s fitness to drive in this weekends event. Tom explains the situation;

“ Thank god Hayanari is ok, that was a huge shunt he had in Australia. He says he feels ok, but will need some time in the car to be sure of his fitness. Zytek have called Casper Elgaard into the team as a precaution if Hayanari can’t do the race. We might also look at doing it with all three of us anyway. It all depends how the testing goes this afternoon ( Friday ). “

The team will have a couple of sessions to see how they shape up and decide on a strategy for the 1000km race on Sunday, one which Tom feels certain will maintain the team’s competitiveness for the 6 hour event;

“ Basically we’re here to win the LMES Championship and I’m sure whatever line up of drivers we use, we should still get a good result. Casper drove in the team’s win at Spa earlier this season, so knows what it takes. If he is in the team that’s Ok. If it’s just Hayanari and me then obviously we will be trying to repeat the victories we had at Laguna and at the Nurburgring. The car has been really quick wherever we have raced it this year and I think that will be the case here in Istanbul as well. It’s a great package and we will have a strong line up so lets hope we can beat the Pescarolo and win the title.
