Gould gets Stars of The Future chance

Hörmann opens doors for future rally driving star

Leicester based garage door specialist, Hörmann has been sponsoring up and coming rally car driver, Adam Gould, in this year’s British Rally Championship Stars of the Future competition.

The Stars of the Future initiative aims to encourage new British rallying talent, by finding a new star and boosting his or her career to the point where world championship teams will take a serious interest.

Hörmann, an international garage door manufacturer with its UK headquarters is in Coalville, has been backing 18 year old Adam from Bristol in the competition, after he impressed the experts in Scotland last year by beating off many experienced drivers to win his class on his first ever stage rally at the age of 17.  During the same year Adam achieved an impressive 2nd overall in the British Junior Rallycross Championship.

The company became involved in the initiative when one of its suppliers, Simon Sparey, owner of The Garage Door People in Weston Super Mare, announced he would be navigating for Adam throughout the championships, and was looking for financial backing to get the talented young driver noticed.

Simon, who has travelled the world as a navigator over the past 15 years, believes that Adams’ skills behind the wheel are incredibly rare for one so young: “It usually takes four or five years for a driver to reach Adam’s standard.  He has great potential, and with the right backing, he could go far.”

The competition consists of six rallies, each covering around 120 miles.  The pair have been competing in an MG ZR 1400, and are using the competition to gain Adam experience prior to a major national championship next year.

Simon comments: “Rallying is an incredibly expensive sport, and we are grateful to Hörmann for stepping in at short notice and offering their support.  We will need to find substantial financial backing to take Adam’s rallying career to the next level.  Competing in the British Rally Championship can cost anywhere between £40,000 and £100,000.”

Richard Warom, Managing Director of Hörmann, said: "This is an excellent initiative to promote new talent in the racing world, and we are thrilled to have been able to play our part.  I wish Adam and Simon the best of luck for the rest of the season.”
