Successful shakedown for Russel Racing

Brand new Formula Renault UK team Russell Racing conducted the first shakedown of two of its recently purchased FR 2.0 cars at Donington Park yesterday - the Doncaster outfit declaring itself delighted after a trouble-free maiden run.Reigning Formula Renault BARC Vice-Champion, Harlesden resident Matt Russell, was joined by Formula Renault UK Championship regular Rodolfo Gonzalez during the test and both drivers concluded the day pleased with their respective performances. Commenting on the shakedown, team manager Rob Croot said: “It was a successful test and I’m very happy we achieved a full day’s running without any glitches or problems. It was good for us to have two cars out and I’m very pleased with how things went.“Rodolfo was right on the pace and Matt made good use of the time getting used to a full UK Championship specification car again, having run all year, of course, in the BARC series with an engine restrictor and fixed gear ratios.”Having finalised its buyout of the ex-Team JLR Formula Renault UK operation less than two weeks ago, Russell Racing is busy preparing for its maiden assault on the Formula Renault UK Championship in 2006. The team is also aiming to dovetail its campaign with fielding cars in the FR2000 Class of the BARC-led series next year.Testing opportunities for drivers hoping to compete in either of the championships are available now and Russell Racing is keen to hear from anyone with aspirations of taking part in Formula Renault UK or Formula Renault BARC next season.Croot added: “It’s a very exciting time for the whole team and we’d like to hear from any drivers interested in testing with a view to running with Russell Racing in 2006. Although we’re a brand new team, we’re confident in our ability and our individual experience. But that’s not to say we’re unrealistic either, we fully appreciate the challenge ahead of us.”
