Myerscough College Motorsports team are supporting and competing in the Grizedale Stages Rally 2005 for the 6th time next month.
Myerscough will be running three of its cars this year, with all cars being serviced by students at the event, on 3 December 2005 in Coniston, Cumbria. In addition a group of students from the College will be acting as marshalls and will be on the stages and in the service area for the event. Myerscough considers "hands-on" experience to be essential to complete the learning experience and students are actively encouraged to get involved in the international racing and rallying events attended throughout the year.
We are also pleased to announce that Myerscough College now offers a certified Marshalls course in association with the MSA. Myerscough College is unique in this country in the type of courses it offers. No other University or College competes at our level or can offer the depth and breadth of racing experience in track and rally events. Over 30 races were competed in last year at national level with the team finishing exceptionally well against professional race teams. This helps students gain valuable experience in the industry and can provide them with opportunities to meet the teams and network with potential employers. A large number of students go on to gain part and full time jobs with many of these teams.
Myerscough offers a range of Motorsports courses from First Diploma to Degree level and is constantly improving its resources and program to keep up with the motorsports industry. The students build, service and repair the race and rally cars and have over the years built a strong reputation for reliability and competitiveness. The College has six well-equipped workshops where the cars are built and prepared. The course has been expanding steadily over the last year and apart from the new marshalls course has also begun a First Diploma Motorcycle course at a local Kart and Off road track in Preston.
This year is promising to be the busiest year yet for the students and staff. We are anticipating running a two car assault on the Formula Ford Zetec National Championship along with a full season of tarmac events for the Mark II Escort and hopefully a mixed season’s rallying for the group N Subaru.
