PAUL DANA, TEAM ETHANOL AND INDYCAR SERIES FEATURED IN FOX NEWS & BBC WORLD NEWS DOCUMENTARIES ON GLOBAL WARMING
Paul Dana, driver of the #91 Ethanol Hemelgarn Racing entry in the Indy Racing League IndyCar® Series, was featured in two recent documentaries about global warming.
Both the FOX News documentary "The Heat Is On:The Case of Global Warming," which aired Sunday evening, Nov. 13, and the BBC WorldNews documentary "Gas Muzzlers - America's Battle Over Global Warming," which airedseven times between Nov. 5 and Nov. 14, profiled the IndyCar Series as part of the solutionto global warming because of its progressive decision to switch to Ethanol as its fuelbeginning next year.
Nearly 700,000 viewers tuned in to FOX News as Dana discussed ethanol's relevance toone of the most important issues of our time. He was joined in the program with othernotables such as environmental activists Robert F. Kennedy Jr. and Laurie David, (wife ofSeinfeld producer and Curb Your Enthusiasm star Larry David), Dr. Bruce Molnia of the USGeological Survey and Dr. Michael Oppenheimer, a lead author of the UN sponsoredIntergovernmental Panel on Climate Change. In addition to profiling the, the program alsohighlighted the positive steps taken by companies such as Royal Dutch Shell and FordMotor Company.
"Racing hasn't always had the best environmental footprint," Dana said in his FOX Newsinterview. "We consume tires and fuel and motor oil. When our country uses Ethanol itmeans less oil we have to import. Another big advantage is that it reduces tailpipeemissions."
The BBC program had an even greater reach. It was broadcast to more than 200 countriesand territories worldwide and into 268 million households. In the U.S. BBC World Newsbroadcasts now reach around 86% of television households (approximately 86 millionhomes) and cover every major market including New York, Chicago, LA, Miami, Dallas,Washington DC, Seattle, San Francisco, Boston and Houston.
BBC World News is also available 24 hours a day at the UN Headquarters, the WhiteHouse, the Pentagon and the Department of Homeland Security at their request.
In the program, host Roger Harrabin applauded the IndyCar Series, saying, "Thesehydrocarbon heroes are taking their foot off the CO2."
The IndyCar Series was featured alongside a segment outlining how nine north-easternstates are poised to sign an agreement setting Kyoto-style legal limits on greenhouse gasemissions from power stations, as well as a segment about howCalifornia Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger is forging ahead with legislation to cutemissions from cars by 30% within a decade.
Ethanol is a high octane, high performance fuel that is clean burning, renewable and madein America. As a growing component of the United States' gasoline supply, ethanol deliversimproved vehicle performance while reducing emissions and improving air quality. TheIndyCar Series will transition to Ethanol as it's fuel beginning in 2006 with a 10% blend,moving to 100% fuel-grade Ethanol as it's fuel in 2007.
