World Series by Renault is back in Britain for 2006 and looking to build on the extraordinary success of its introductory year. The unique international motorsport event will return to the UK at Donington Park’s International Circuit on 9th/10th September and is free to the public. The series’ three regular championships, the spectacular Formula Renault 3.5-litre World Series single-seaters, the Mégane Trophy and the ever-popular Formula Renault 2.0-litre Eurocup, will all appear for the second year running.Renault’s world-class package will be accompanied by two UK-based series, Formula Renault UK with Michelin and the ELF Renault Clio Cup.“World Series is the biggest manufacturer-run package in the world and we’re thrilled to be taking part again. Everybody’s looking forward to it. This year it drew our biggest crowds of the season, and there was a real buzz all week,“ said Renault UK’s Director of Press and PR Tim Jackson.New Scottish Renault Festival
Confirmation of the World Series event came with a small adjustment to Renault’s domestic championships calendar. Formula Renault UK with Michelin and the ELF Renault Clio Cup series have re-scheduled their Scottish appearance this year to avoid the logistical difficulties of two consecutive race weekends in Scotland and Derbyshire. They were due to appear at the British Touring Car Championship’s Knockhill meeting, which takes place just one week before the World Series by Renault extravaganza. However, Britain’s Renault racers will join their international racing cousins at the spectacular Donington event, and will also appear at a new independent Renault Festival at the Scottish circuit on 17th/18th June.In 2005,World Series by Renault surpassed organisers’ expectations, attracting more than 50,000 spectators to Donington Park who enjoyed exciting racing and off-track displays for free. Packed grids and top-class drivers ensured gripping races for fans and the headlining Formula Renault 3.5-litre championship was quickly hailed as a massive crowd favourite.Plans for the 2006 event include more on-track displays from incredible cars, including the Formula One World Championship-winning R25 Renault F1 Team car, while off track, a funfair, autograph sessions with famous drivers, safety displays, a huge range of collectors’ cars plus product and trade stands will make the World Series by Renault meeting in September one not to be missed.
