BOOZE CREWS RETURN TRIUMPHANT FROM BEAUJOLAIS DRIVING CHALLENGE
Car enthusiasts, wine buffs and those with a 'spirit of adventure' - as well as a sense of direction - returned triumphant from Great Ormond Street Hospital Children's Charity's annual Beaujolais Driving Challenge, 15 -17 November.
The challenge is designed to test map reading skill and navigational ability by driving during the night, through the winding streets of France via three mystery checkpoints with the clock ticking, aiming to finish with the lowest possible mileage - a test of cunning and skill, not speed.
Great Ormond Street Hospital Children's Charity is aiming to raise £65,000, which will go towards the hospital's redevelopment programme. Over the next five years GOSHCC aims to raise £150 million to pay for the redevelopment of the old buildings. The charity wants to provide care in a more comfortable and convenient way and to reduce unnecessary stays in hospital. Most of the charity's funds are already committed to this ambitious project. The NHS has made a grant of £75m towards the project but we still have to find £125m if we are to deliver the world class care that all our children deserve.
After the event all the competitors enjoyed the traditional Beaujolais Nouveau festivities, including a celebratory dinner followed by an excursion to the Beaujeu village street party, which celebrates the wine's traditional midnight release on the third Thursday in November.
