The Motor Sports Association has announced the costs of using Forestry Commission land for motor sport activity in 2006.Following the announcement of the 2005 Retail Price Index in October, the Motor Sports Association and the Forestry Commission can confirm the new schedule of charges for the use of Forestry Commission roads from 1st January to 31st December 2006.The MSA and the Forestry Commission signed an agreement in 2004 that not only set out a framework for the management of motor sport on Forestry Commission land, but also confirmed index-linked price rises through to the end of 2007. As an extension to last year's agreement, a Motor Sport Concordat has been established to create a partnership for managing and developing motor sport alongside the other activities on the Commission's estate. The Commission recognises that its estate provides some of the finest venues in Britain for special stage car rallies and off road events. Forest roads are also ideal for historic and endurance rallies and the estate offers excellent opportunities for the public to watch these exciting sports.Colin Hilton, MSA Chief Executive, said: "The use of the Forestry Commission's estate is essential to the ongoing development of motor sport in this country and we are grateful to the Commission for its continued support. It is important for clubs' plans that we have been able to index-link the price increases for three years, but it is vital that the motor sport community continues to work with the Commission and co-exist alongside other users to safeguard our on-going activities on the Commission's land."The rates per mile for Special Stage Rallies (including Multi-Use and Historic Special Stage Rallies) are:Primary usage: £509Secondary usage: £302The rates per mile for Endurance Road Rallies are:Primary usage: £154Secondary usage: £97The rates per mile for Off-Road Events (Competitive Safari or Hill Rally) are:Primary usage: Category A roads £159 Category B roads and other surfaces £51Secondary usage: Category A roads £77 Category B roads and other surfaces £26The rates per mile for Road Rallies are:Primary usage: £77Secondary usage: £41The rates per mile for Navigation Rallies are:Primary usage: £41Secondary usage: £41Forestry Commission PermitInternational Rally of GB: £2,000British Rally Championship rounds: £512Other events: £256Right to Roam Closure OrderCROW Act 2001: £102The Motor Sports Association/Forestry Commission Concordat is now published and available to download on the MSA Website – www.msauk.org.
