Profiles of every driver who has taken part in Formula 1                        since its inaugural race in 1950

Each and every driver who has competed in Formula One has a fascinating story behind his (and occasionally her) name. Stories of bravery, glamour, skill and, more often than you'd wish, tragedy. These stories are told in the 24opp pages of Grand Prix Driver by Driver and prolifically illustrated with more than 450 photographs.

Many of the names will be recognisable from the past or more recent races - Stirling Moss, Nigel Mansell, Damon Hill, Jackie Stewart and Michael Schumacher, for example, to the recent successes of young British driver Lewis Hamilton. Many more will be unfamiliar or sadly forgotten. Kenny Acheson, from Northern Ireland, started three of the 10 races he entered between 1983 and 1985 but failed to score points. Talented Italian, Lorenzo Bandini, competed in 42 races, finished fourth in the World Championship in 1964 but only scored one win.

This is not merely a statistical reference book - each profile narrates the driver's standing, successes and iconic moments. Along the way, the changing face of Formula 1 is revealed. In the past, before costs became prohibitive, it wasn't unusual to see privateer entrants - individuals driving their own cars, or ones in a team which didn't construct its own cars. That's why in the listings, author, Phil Raby, has included entries for team or manufacturer, so readers can see the type of car being used.

All drivers who entered a FIA Formula One World Championship Grand Prix from 1950 to 2007 are included. Some entered races but failed to qualify to start

Whether you're a fan of today's Formula 1 events or prefer the old fashioned races this book is a must for all fans of motorsport.
