A German man has been stopped by police after he was caught hurtling down a busy high street doing 40mph in a tuned-up electric wheelchair.

Guenther Eichmann (54) explained to police in Geseke, Germany, that he was a former engineer and had used his expertise to modify the wheelchair's electric engine to allow it to go faster.

Mr Eichmann's wheelchair was confiscated and he received a £300 fine.

What a legend!
