“We wanted to announce the provisional race timetable as soon as possible and thanks to an early agreement with the various race group coordinators we have a fantastic line up of 21 races, including two FIA sanctioned events,” said Roger Etcell, Managing Director of event promoters Motion Works UK Limited. “The ticket prices have been set at a level that offers visitors to the Silverstone Classic great value for money for the level of entertainment that the event has to offer. The earlier people book their tickets, the better value they become, and with free entry for children, the whole family can enjoy a great day out at Silverstone in late July just at the start of the school summer holidays.”
Event Background
The annual Silverstone Classic event will be organised and promoted by Motion Works UK Limited (MWUK) on behalf of Classic Automotive Events Limited, the company recently licensed by Silverstone to stage the event for the next five years. As the new organisers, MWUK plan to build on the many positive aspects the event has to offer.
The first key ingredient to the annual Silverstone Classic is its unique opportunity to stage and celebrate motor racing across all decades from the 1920s to the 1990s on a current FIA approved circuit. The Silverstone Classic is not totally historic as it also invites more contemporary races such as Group C, Saloons and late Formula One cars to be raced and seen in their appropriate surroundings. The event strategy will be to maintain and further develop this unique position and as time evolves the celebrated decades will increase.
The second key ingredient is the great assembly of classic cars from the extensive list of Classic Car Owner Clubs across the UK and overseas. MWUK, as part of their supporting role in recent years, developed this element of the event to over 4,000 cars on display across the event period in 2007 and there are plans for even further enhancement. The event Auction remains an important landmark and features such as the Scarf & Goggles meeting area, art & photo galleries, period air displays, funfairs, themed catering, will be retained and enhanced. New attractions will be added such as; automobilia, autojumble, Concours d’Elegance, automotive book & toy fairs, antique fairs and many other elements targeted at all ages and levels of enthusiasm.
The entire event is planned to be filmed for television and the promoters have announced that the HSCC have been retained for their race organisation expertise.
