Max’s 2008 opportunity with Hitech

Following a successful four day test in Spain in December, it has now been confirmed that Max Chilton will drive for Hitech in the 2008 British F3 International Championship.

Max joins the 2007 Championship winning team alongside Austrian Walter Grubmuller and a yet to be announced third driver. They will all race the new for this season Dallara F308 chassis powered by Mercedes Benz engines.

Hitech team principal David Hayle was impressed by Max’s performance during the test days which commenced at Jerez just before Christmas;

"I am very excited at having reached an agreement to run Max, it gives us a great opportunity to bring on a very bright young British talent.”Max is extremely happy at being selected to join the Hitech team and believes it offers him a fantastic opportunity;

“Hitech are an extremely successful team. They dominated the Championship last year with Marko Asmer, but also have been competitive for many years before as well. It was great to have Marko there driving on the test days I had in Spain as I got to compare data with the reigning Champion and see where he was finding time. What I’ve already learnt from him and from the team in just four days has shown me that in 2008 I can make a lot of progress. They can certainly give me a car to really show what I can do and having team-mates will also be an advantage compared to last year.”

All the teams and drivers in F3 are currently subject to a testing ban which runs from the end of December through to 15th February. This means the focus for the team is on building the new cars and preparing to begin their development programmes before they can actually take to the tracks again. Max’s focus is back on his school work for now, but he is eager to get behind the wheel of the new Dallara when the testing ban ends.
