34 hours of track time for Carrera Cup
Drivers contesting the 2008 Porsche Carrera Cup GB will benefit from a total of almost 34 hours of track time across the season. With each race weekend offering up to three hours of track time, the Carrera Cup GB represents a tremendous opportunity for drivers aiming to maximise the time spent driving the stunning 911GT3 Cup cars. The track time available measures up extremely well for anyone considering racing a purpose-built GT car in 2008.The draft weekend schedule for the Carrera Cup starts with exclusive testing, usually on the Friday of the event, with two 45-minute test sessions. Qualifying will be a 25-minute session on Saturday and, at most events, both Carrera Cup races will be on Sunday, each with a race distance of up to 30 minutes. When the pre-season test day at Silverstone in March is included, the total for the season is almost 34 hours."This is a very significant amount of track time," said championship manager Marion Barnaby of Porsche Cars GB. "We think it represents an excellent opportunity for drivers and teams keen to compete at the top of British motor racing in a championship with a tremendous profile and superb back-up."With most Carrera Cup races on the Sunday of the BTCC race weekends, a new qualifying system is being introduced. For 2008, a driver's best qualifying time will set their grid position for the opening race, while the second best qualifying time will set their grid position for the second race.Note: All times and details are subject to final event timetables.
