Competitors in five of the Masters Top Hat categories will get the chance to race at Snetterton this spring as the Masters Racing Series visits the East Anglian circuit for the first time for a one-day race meeting on Saturday 29 March.
Under its new Manager, Claire Tippet, this will be the first of four Top Hat Race Days will offer mini-endurance races for Top Hat Pre '66 Saloons, Cloth Cap (Pre '66 GT Cars including the Jaguar XK Challenge), Oldies but Goldies (Pre '60 Touring and GT Cars), Touring 70s (Group 2 Touring Cars of the 1970s) and Stars of the 70s (1970s Touring and pre '75 GT Cars).
The Pre '66 Saloons will race over 60 minutes, while the other four categories will each have a 45-minute race following qualifying on Saturday morning.
With a heritage dating back to 1951, Snetterton is one of Britain's busiest race tracks and yet rarely hosts classic and historic events, so the Top Hat day is a welcome addition to the Norfolk track's calendar.
The Pre '66 Saloon Car race will come as the 50th anniversary season of the British Saloon Car Championship begins. Fittingly, one of Norfolk's most celebrated racers, Sir Jack Sears, was the inaugural champion in 1958 and won the title again in 1963 in a Lotus Cortina. Now, 45 years later, Snetterton will once again witness the spectacle of Lotus Cortinas battling with Ford Mustangs and Mini Coopers.
Entries are now being accepted for the Top Hat Race Day at Snetterton on Saturday 29 March and more details are available from themastersseries.com
