Idafar Makes BARC Return With Hillspeed

Promising young Formula Renault BARC Championship racer Menasheh Idafar is delighted to officially confirm his return to the category for the coming season after signing a deal with Derbyshire based team Hillspeed. The 16-year-old, who lives in Bahrain and also has a home in South West London, made his British race debut in the headline FR2000 Class of the Formula Renault BARC series last year and is aiming to become a regular top 10 finisher throughout the 2008 season.Even though he will celebrate his 17th birthday just over a week prior to the first round of the season on Easter Weekend, Menasheh is still set to be one of the youngest drivers in the category – balancing his racing with studies at boarding school in Switzerland.Menasheh’s association with Hillspeed began ahead of last November’s Formula Renault Winter Championship where the Gulf Computer Services-backed star achieved a brace of BARC Class podiums on his way to fifth overall in the class standings. The team also ran full Formula Renault UK specification cars in the winter series and achieved overall championship victory with Welshman Richard Singleton. After such a successful end to 2007 for Hillspeed, hopes are clearly very high for the coming season. Speaking on his continuation as a Hillspeed driver in 2008, Menasheh said: “I’m really very happy to be returning to Formula Renault BARC this year with Hillspeed. The winter series was quite good for us and I hope, with more testing behind us over the next few weeks, we’ll be able to improve more and achieve some good results.”Forming part of a three-car Formula Renault BARC line-up for Hillspeed, Menasheh will be joined this season by Omani racer Ahmad Al Harthy and Essex-based British driver Michael Lyons.
