V8 Ute drivers vying

for V8 Supercar test

With only two rounds of the 2008 Yokohama V8 Utes Racing Series, competitors are closing in on two major awards, the V8 Ute Championship title and Racer Industries Rookie of the Year.

For the first time in the history of the V8 Ute series, the winner of each title will receive a test in a V8 Supercar.

Racer Industries, Manager Ryan Mcleod believes it is important to reward drivers with a chance like this as it is a great stepping stone to reach the next level.

“We’ve got a bit of a history of helping young drivers out and we hope that it will help guys get to the next level.”

“Either if they have won the championship or Rookie of the Year they are certainly on the right track to reach the next stage in their career,” said Mr Mcleod.

Current Racer Industries Rookie of the Year Leader, Glenn McNally couldn’t be happier with his efforts

“It’s good to be leading rookie of the year it’s one of the goals I set at the beginning so I am pretty excited. Also to have a go at driving a V8 Supercar would be the icing on the cake.”

“I didn’t really have any preparation before racing the Utes. I raced previously in Formula Ford, which weigh 500kg compared to the 1800kg Ute. "

“I had also only really driven on one track before so it has been fantastic to be able to drive on so many different ones this year.

“I am really looking forward to Bathurst, it’s every Kids dream to race at.” McNally said.

Another driver who is excited about Bathurst is current Series leader Layton Crambrook.

“I am feeling quietly confident. Anything can happen at this stage, which was proven last year. We just need to keep other competitors from taking us out and we will be ok.”

Race Two and Three from Bathurst will be televised live on the Seven Network, Saturday, 11th and Sunday 12th October.
