Motors TV Weekly Highlights

 25th April - 1st May‏

World MX1 & MX2 – LIVEThe Motocross cavalcade rolls into Valkenswaard, Holland for the mysteriously named Benelux Grand Prix. In reality, this international trading name has been adopted purely for the benefit of the MX-mad Dutch and Belgians who, as well as having their own World Championship events later in the year, get this one thrown in for free. As always there’s live coverage of all four races across MX1 and MX2 from 11am. For the real scrambler buffs amongst you though, feel free to tune in for highlights of MX3’s opening round from Mallory Park at 10.30am.

British Formula Ford

Fans of domestic racing rejoice; Motors TV has only gone and landed one the most prized fishes from Britain’s motorsport pond – MSA Formula Ford Championship of Great Britain. The name might have changed but the action on track promises to be as frantic as ever. With those in junior motorsport tightening their belts amid all this talk of a recession, they’re going to need a cheap but prestigious alternative to those costly single-seater series out there. Step forward Formula Ford, practically an institution in British motor racing, but still considered the best place for young drivers to hone their skills.

World SuperbikeHaving enjoyed a little R&R time since their last outing in Valencia, the World Superbike boys return for their trip to Holland and an Assen venue revered by bike lovers the world over. Ben Spies has so far confounded paddock insiders with his performances on the Yamaha as the multiple AMA champion continues to upset the established order. As always the World SBK lot are preceded by European Superstock highlights.

European Superstock / World SBK, Round 4, AssenThursday, 30th April from 19:30 (WSBK: 21:00)International GT OpenEuropean sportscar championships are two-a-penny these days but if you want something that’s got big grids, close racing and travels to some of the continent’s best circuits, you won’t go far wrong with the International GT Open. Born out of the Spanish national championship, it’s set to become a serious threat to the FIA’s alternatives. The packed grid of GT2 and GT3 machinery makes for a lively contest and, thanks to driver changes in races that last no more than just over an hour, you get all the fun of endurance racing without having to wait quite as long for a result.

 British GT

The country’s biggest and best GT championship returns to Motors TV screens in 2009 for more of the same top notch sportscar action. The headlines might have focused on the high profile withdrawals but into the breach step a number of teams campaigning a wide variety of machinery. Mosler, for instance, returns to the fray courtesy of Rollcentre Racing while Ford’s GT will be a regular feature throughout after a one-off appearance in ’08. Barwell will also introduce its GT3 variant of last season’s GT4 dominating Ginetta G50 to compete alongside the likes of Ferrari, Lamborghini, Dodge, Aston Martin, Porsche and Ascari.  British GT, Round 1, Oulton ParkSaturday, 25th April, 18:00

Dutch PowerpackThe Dutch prove once and for all that they’re as mad as a box of frogs with the Powerpack series, a lesson in what happens when lorries transporting family hatchbacks from the factory take a wrong turn at the windmill and are set upon by a horde of motorsport mad mechanics. BMW, Renault and Ford will be just a selection of the manufacturers left scratching their heads in 2009 as to the whereabouts of missing family run-around consignments.
