Boost for growing Go Motorsport campaign

Britain’s top racing series, the HiQ MSA British Touring Car Championship, has got behind Go Motorsport, Britain’s biggest motor sport initiative. Go Motorsport has been set up by the Motor Sports Association (MSA), the governing body of motor sport in the UK, to help guide people into all areas of motor sport, be it as a competitor, spectator or volunteer.

The campaign was launched last year with F1 World Champion Lewis Hamilton at the McLaren Technology Centre and has attracted strong support from many of the most famous names including Jenson Button, the current FIA Formula 1 World Championship pacesetter. Button along with David Coulthard, former Formula 1 World Champion Damon Hill OBE, former BTCC Champion Jason Plato, multiple World Touring Car Champion Andy Priaulx, double Le Mans 24 Hour winner Allan McNish, former World Rally Champion Robert Reid plus a host of other high-profile personalities have all become official Go Motorsport Ambassadors.

The BTCC and its high-profile support race package – which features Porsche, Renault and Ginetta championships – is the biggest drawcard in UK motor sport. Nationwide events regularly attract in the region of 120 drivers per race weekend, each battling for honours on Britain’s best-known racing circuits. Some 325,000 watch the BTCC trackside each year, with many millions more viewing the races live on ITV4 – hosted by ITV Sport anchorman Steve Rider and Go Motorsport Ambassador Louise Goodman.

Drivers and cars representing the BTCC and its support package lined up at Thruxton recently for a special Go Motorsport photo shoot to highlight their support. In the foreground was Colin Turkington’s race winning Team RAC BMW 320si, which proudly carries GoMotorsport.net decals in all 30 BTCC races.

MSA Chairman, Alan Gow says "It’s great to see so many of the drivers who compete in the HiQ MSA British Touring Car Championship actively supporting the Go Motorsport initiative and helping others get involved in the sport. With exciting racing and extensive live television coverage on ITV4, the BTCC package is clearly the best promotional stage within UK motor sport and thus a great platform from which to spread the Go Motorsport gospel."
