JUNE 28, 2009 – A MOTORCYCLE EVENT FOR EVERYONE

The quarter-mile Aintree Sprint will play host to an eclectic array of motorcycles from vintage and classic to modern and specials when it returns for its third year at the historic Liverpool venue on June 28, 2009.

Now famous for hosting horse races, the Aintree circuit used to be home to the British MotoGP (then Grand Prix) in the 1950s where riders like Mike Hailwood, John Surtees and Tommy Robb battled for victory. In front of the grandstand, the start finish straight from the old circuit still exists and the Aintree Sprint invites all motorcyclists the chance to ride this historic circuit, battling against the clock and their machinery in a quarter mile sprint.

Run as a joint venture between the Vintage Motor Cycle club (North West section) & The Mersey Motor Cycle club, spectators and competitors can see everything from Vincent Black Shadows to turbo Suzuki Hayabusas right through to sidecars and scooters blasting down the course; there are sprint classes to suit every type and age of machinery. Day memberships for the club and sprinting licenses are available at the event.

Helping to raise money for the North West Air Ambulance, the one-day event promises fun for all the family with plenty of things to see and do, including displays of vintage, classic, modern machinery and race bikes, including a Randy Mamola Suzuki RG500 and a Christian Sarron Yamaha TZ350, among others.

A mobile dyno service is available to reveal your bike’s true horsepower and a variety of trade stands and the annual auto jumble could reveal those much sought after spare parts. Special guest speakers are yet to be announced but specialist manufacturers, repairers and club members will be on hand to offer technical tips and advice. You can even hire a Vincent HRD tour or plan a motorcycle holiday on the day.

With excellent facilities and parking, the Aintree venue has easy access from local motorway networks, being close to the end of the M58 and M57 junction, on the A59 just north of Liverpool.

The venue opens at 9.30am with sprinting beginning at 11.30am. Spectators pay £5 (under 16s free) and competitors entry costs £48 which will give four runs of the quarter mile course. Day licenses and day club memberships available.
