Carrera Cup GB racers head for Monaco

Porsche Carrera Cup GB racers Michael Leonard and Glynn Geddie will get the chance of a lifetime this weekend (23/24 May) when they race at Monaco in the Porsche Mobil1 Supercup race supporting the Grand Prix. The pair of drivers from Team Parker Racing will tackle the street race event on the weekend between two Carrera Cup meetings, with their cars leaving on Sunday evening (17 May), straight after the Donington Park races. After the Monaco race, the team has just one day to re-prepare the cars for the next Carrera Cup races at Oulton Park on 30/31 May.“From Mondello Park to Monte Carlo is a big step. It’s living the dream,” said Irishman Leonard. “I got the opportunity from Porsche and I talked it over with my sponsors and they were very keen to go down. It’s a bit of a daunting challenge, but I’m sure we’ll be okay once we’ve done a bit of practice. “I’ve been to Monte Carlo three times for the Grand Prix, but watching there and racing there are two different things. One small mistake there and you’re in trouble; there’s no margin for mistakes. In years to come I’ll be able to say that I raced at Monte Carlo, one of the blue riband events anywhere in motor racing. Thanks to Marion Barnaby from the Carrera Cup GB and Stuart Parker of Team Parker Racing for making it possible.”“It’s a great opportunity,” said Geddie, now 18-years old. “I hope to do the Silverstone Supercup race as well. I watched the 2007 Grand Prix but it’ll be an experience to learn the track in 45 minutes of free practice.”Team boss Stuart Parker says that the logistics of fitting the Monaco race into the Carrera Cup schedule are a challenge and that team leader Tim Bridgman considered tackling the Monaco race before deciding to concentrate on his bid for the Carrera Cup GB title.“We are going up against it and the timings are very tight,” said Parker. “We’re testing with Tim Bridgman and Tom Bradshaw at Oulton Park this Wednesday (20 May) as well, so some of us will leave Oulton on Wednesday afternoon and drive overnight to Monaco. It’s a once in a lifetime opportunity for them and thanks go to Marion Barnaby and Porsche for making it happen.”
