McMenamin joins Carrera Cup GB

acing newcomer Glenn McMenamin made his Porsche Carrera Cup GB debut at Donington Park (16/17 May), having recently completed enough races to gain a National A race licence.McMenamin (37), has extensive track day experience, but only started racing last September and contested enough Porsche Open and GT Cup races to upgrade his licence and join the Carrera Cup as soon as practical.Although he didn't finish either race at Donington, McMenamin showed very good pace in the pro-am2 category and ran with category leaders Paul Hogarth and Bob Lyons after setting category pole positions for both races. He also set fastest lap in the second race.The Milton Keynes-based driver is racing with Parr Motorsport and plans to do four more of the remaining seven race weekends this season, concentrating on the circuits he knows.“It is early in my career and I wanted to push myself and see how far I can get,” said McMenamin. “All the time I’m learning.” His next Carrera Cup weekend will be at Oulton Park, his favourite track, on 30/31 May.
