Nakajima and Huertas set the pace

at Rockingham

Räikkönen Robertson F3 racers Daisuke Nakajima and Carlos Huertas set the pace in testing yesterday, around the Rockingham circuit in Northamptonshire.

As the British F3 teams prepared for the third event of the season at Rockingham at the end of the month, Nakajima and Huertas both made good use of the one day test, with Nakajima setting the fastest time in the morning, and Huertas fastest overall in the afternoon.   Dry conditions in the morning allowed the Räikkönen Robertson drivers to test their dry set-ups, with Nakajima completing 62 laps around the 1.9 mile circuit.

The British F3 newcomer set his best time half way through the morning, with a time of 1.12.252 – a time which would go unbeaten for the rest of the morning.   Returning to the track after lunch, 17 year-old Huertas was also on the pace.

The young Columbian had made significant improvements since the first session and was at the top of the time sheets when the rain started to fall.   As track conditions continued to deteriorate, Huertas’ time remained unbeaten, with Nakajima recording the second fastest time to make it a Räikkönen Robertson one-two on the time sheets at the end of the afternoon.

Speaking about his test at Rockingham, Nakajima said, “I was really pleased with our progress today.  It went very well and we found a great set up on the car.  I’m really looking forward to coming back here to race.”

Team Principal Anthony Hieatt said, “Daisuke and Carlos did a great job today, and I think their performance shows just how far they’ve come since the start of the season.  Daisuke once again shamed several drivers who have much more experience here than he does, while Carlos worked very hard to make some big improvements in the afternoon.  Rain in the afternoon session also gave us chance to test a wet set-up, so I’m confident that the team is in good shape ahead of the next race here in a couple of weeks.”
