o Freke result at Oulton Park?
Nathan Freke’s three wins at Donington Park have brought him into contention for the Michelin Ginetta G50 Cup, which blasts into Cheshire for the next two races on May 30/31.
After six races, and four wins, it looked as though Carl Breeze (TCR) was going to be the man to beat. But that didn’t take into account Kidderminster’s Nathan Freke in his Century Motorsport/EOS Productions car. Freke made Donington his own, winning all three races and bagging three pole positions as well. In fact, the only blot on his landscape was that Tom Sharp’s IDL car took the fastest lap in race three, not Nathan!
So he arrives at Oulton Park 20 points adrift of Breeze, but Freke has won here in Formula Ford and is in confident mood. Breeze, however, knows about the demands of season-long TOCA championships and will be keen to score points if he isn’t able to challenge for a win.
Frank Wrathall and Dan Welch are the season’s other winners, Wrathall guiding his Dynojet car to success at Brands Hatch and Welch taking a win on home soil at Thruxton. Wrathall has been a front-runner all season, but Welch missed Donington due to illness. Both will be keen to score well this weekend.
So, too, will local hero Christian Dick who runs the fleet of Speedworks Motorsport cars and was up with the leading pack at Donington, plus Tom Sharp in his second season in G50s and another driver who can never be discounted. Nor should the yourracingcar.com entry of Fulvio Mussi, badly shunted at Donington but hopefully repaired now, rapid ex-single-seater racer Chris Dittman or Hampus Rydman.
The Chairman’s Cup for the over 40s is headed by multiple National Hot Rod titlist Colin White although Paul Sheard, Richard Sykes and Mark Proctor are all capable of spoiling White’s party.
Qualifying fires into life at 11:30 on Saturday May 30 with the 15 lap race that afternoon at 16:30. Sunday’s 15 lapper begins at 15:10.
