Moore wins for the family?

Sarah Moore has taken three wins in the Ginetta Junior Championship with Henderson Insurance, but her brother David is fast becoming a threat. Either, or both, could be winners at Oulton Park in the next brace of races on May 30/31.

Two stunning drives by Sarah Moore in the Ginetta Junior Championship with Henderson Insurance were proved to be no fluke when she bagged a third win of the season in tricky conditions at Donington two weeks ago. However, the way that Sarah had relieved Jake Hill of the lead was considered a little forceful and, whilst she kept the win, Moore was docked 10 points in the championship. Ginetta championship officials are keen to ensure that driving standards are as high as possible this season and are clearly not standing for any messing....

That penalty means Sarah’s Tockwith Motorsport car heads to Oulton Park 11 points clear of Alex Austin’s Koala-backed 1400cc Ginetta G20 which hasn’t yet scored a win, but has been a consistent points scorer all season. Double Brands Hatch winner Jake Cook, nephew of former BTCC racer Paula, lies third ahead for TJ Motorsport of the most recent winner Aaron Williamson Muzz Racing) who won race two at Donington.

But increasingly, it looks as though the Moore family may have two stars on the grid. Sarah’s brother David ran well at Thruxton, leading race one briefly, and was on the pace at Donington, although he made a couple of errors. Mind you, he has done no racing at all until this year: no karting, no Ginetta Juniors, nothing.

Another driver overdue a win is Jake Hill (Tollbar Racing) who led both Donington races from pole position. He was muscled out of the lead in race one by Miss Moore and then was hampered by a backmarker in race two which meant that race went south as well. Undeniably quick, it will be fascinating to see if he can score a maiden win this weekend.

The championship, open to drivers aged between 14 and 17, is proving to be one of the most competitive on the BTCC-support bill this season and the quality of racing tricks you into thinking you are watching drivers who have been competing for years.

Free practice takes place at 10:35 on Saturday May 30, qualifying roars into life at 14:15 and round seven of the championship that afternoon at 17:50. Race two of the weekend will be on Sunday May 31 at 16:30.
