Oulton next for Porsche Carrera Cup

With four winners from six races and the top three title contenders covered by a handful of points, the Porsche Carrera Cup GB is enjoying a superb season and the action continues at Oulton Park (30/31 May) for rounds seven and eight.Currently, defending champion Tim Harvey (Red Line Racing) tops the points' table, but Michael Caine (Motorbase Performance) and Tim Bridgman (Team Parker Racing) are close behind, having each won twice. However, James Sutton (Red Line Racing) scored a great win in the rain at Donington and could yet make it a four-way title contest."It's all good at Oulton Park," said Harvey. "It’s an old-style track with challenging corners. But this is very much Michael's place," added Harvey, referring to the race-winning pace of Caine in previous Carrera Cup races at the Cheshire track. Caine concurs: "It's been brilliant to me. I love it at Oulton Park and I've always gone well there."Bridgman, too, rates Oulton Park as one of his favourite tracks. "I love Oulton Park, though I enjoy all the tracks," said Bridgman. Of the early title race, Bridgman is confident that he can pull back the points' gap to Harvey and Caine. "It should fall back into place; everyone has bad luck at some point," he said. For Carrera Cup Scholarship winner Tom Bradshaw (Team Parker Racing), Oulton Park is very much home ground and he goes into the weekend with his sights set on a first podium finish. "Oulton Park is the place I’ve done the majority of my racing. I did North West Formula Ford 1600 in 2006 when I was 16 and I’ve done a fair few laps round there," said Tom. "It’s my favourite circuit; it’s undulating, it’s quick and it’s a beautiful place to be."The competition is just as intense in the pro-am1 category, where four drivers have each won races this year. Glynn Geddie (Team Parker Racing) and Robert Lawson (JHR) are currently tied for the points' lead from Tony Gilham (Red Line Racing), Derek Pierce (JHR) and Ollie Jackson (Motorbase Performance), while Michael Leonard (Team Parker Racing) is also right on the pace.Geddie and Leonard will both arrive at Oulton Park fresh from racing at Monaco in the Porsche Supercup race supporting the Grand Prix, while Gilham was boosted by a successful test at Oulton earlier this week. "I've found a lot of pace since last year," said the Kent-based racer. Robin Clark (Parr Motorsport) currently has the advantage in the pro-am2 category, but Bob Lyons (Celtic Speed) and Glenn McMenamin (Parr Motorsport) are both potential category winners. McMenamin made a strong Carrera Cup debut at Donington and will now build on that experience at a track he rates as one of his favourites.
