in Improved Production Racing
Yokohama Tyre Australia has won the Improved Production Racing Association (IPRA) control tyre agreement for the next three years.
All improved production race cars will be using the A048 R-spec race tyre, which is designed for the serious circuit racer through until the end of 2011.
The tyre is available in a wide choice of sizes from 10 inch to 18 inch rims allowing a broad range of cars to compete fairly on the same rubber. The tyre has proved durable in hot and cold conditions around Australia.
Yokohama has been supporting IPRA for the past seven years and Improved Production Car representative, Paul Foster believes that the total package of supply, service and tyre performance is the best the category has had.
“Yokohama Tyres are the best we have used and that is why we continue to use them. They provide the performance we require on all track conditions, whether it’s hot, cold, wet or dry,” said Foster.
IPRA was introduced as a category to give rally cars somewhere to race and was originally formed under the name “Road Registered” in the 1980’s but changed the name to Club Cars in the early 1990’s. In 2001, the category was re-branded Improved Production Cars and Yokohama has been involved ever since.
“Since Yokohama’s involvement the level of competition is a lot higher and with all the cars using the same tyres it makes for a fair playing field,” said Foster.
IPRA is one of the most cost effective forms of motorsport with many teams running cars for a complete season for the same budget that some categories run only one round for. In a tougher economic climate, IPRA offers a real cost effective alternative to the weekend motor racer.
The Yokohama’ AO48 R-spec will take to the track at the Improved Production Cars next race meeting at Oran Park, Sydney 30th – 31st May.
