Singleton shines in Porsche Carrera Cup
Single-seater racer Richard Singleton showed excellent form when he joined the Porsche Carrera Cup GB to race the guest car at Oulton Park over the weekend (30/31 May).Singleton was racing for the weekend as a reward for being one of the six finalists in the 2009 Carrera Cup GB Scholarship and had never raced anything other than a kart or a single-seater before. The 20-year old started racing in karts at the age of 12 and has since been a champion in the Formula Renault BARC Championship. The North Wales racer finished eighth in the opening race despite being elbowed back to 15th place at the start and qualified a tremendous sixth fastest for the second race. Unfortunately, his second race ended early after a knock at the Island Hairpin damaged the car's rear suspension. "I've learnt so much this weekend; it's been a great experience," said Singleton, who is currently sidelined from racing by lack of funds. "I wanted to be in the top five in the second race and I know I had the pace to do that. I got quicker every time I got in the car and it's opened my eyes about career options for the future."
