Slight joins Carrera Cup GB at Croft
Former World Superbike racer Aaron Slight will return to the Porsche Carrera Cup GB at Croft over the weekend of 13/14 June to race the VIP car, six years after his last appearance in the championship. The New Zealand racer was Australian Superbike Champion in 1991 before spending most of the 1990s racing World Superbikes, scoring 13 race wins and finishing in the championship top three on five occasions. He also won the Suzuka Eight-Hour race three times in a row during his long and successful career on two-wheels.In 2001 he made the switch to racing cars and competed in the British Touring Car Championship and then selected GT races, including racing in the Carrera Cup VIP car at Thruxton in May 2003. On his Porsche debut he scored an overall podium finish at the challenging Hampshire track. Now, Slight will return to the Carrera Cup GB for the pair of races at Croft, where he is sure to be a big draw for the enthusiastic north-eastern crowd during the British Touring Car Championship meeting. In January this year, Aaron raced in the Carrera Cup New Zealand, driving in the latest specification 911GT3 Cup car in the support races at the A1 GP event."I finished fourth in my sprint race and finished on the podium in both the endurance races. It was fantastic fun to be racing again," said Slight. "I felt at home in the car and was really pleased to be using the sequential gearbox as that was my biggest problem last time I drove the Cup car."
