STOKE produced a spectacular comeback to edge out Sheffield by a single point in a thrilling encounter at Loomer Road.The Potters were nine-down with three heats to go but finished with two 5-1s, the clincher from Jason Bunyan and skipper Lee Complin.Complin said: "It was a total team effort from the track staff who helped get the meeting on to the seven riders who all chipped in."

NEWCASTLE underlined their recent improvement by taking a point from a narrow 49-44 defeat at Workington.Danish youngster Rene Bach starred on his first appearance at Derwent Park, winning the last two races including one for double-points.Diamonds manager George English said: "We are now showing an increased degree of our home form at our away matches, and that means no-one can take us for granted."

TALENTED British teenager Joe Haines will make his racing return at Rye House on Saturday.Haines, who suffered neck injuries three months ago, will ride for the Rockets in their double header against King's Lynn and Birmingham (6pm).Rockets chief Len Silver said: "It's a tremendous boost for both Joe and the team to have him on the way back. The injury could easily have ended his season."

BOUYANT Coventry boss Peter Oakes believes the race for a play-off place will go down to the wire.Oakes is delighted with his team's current form but the battle for a top four spot is getting tight.He said: "All of a sudden we're back in the top three and that's a nice position to be in, although I'm sure Lakeside fancy their chances because they've got a lot of home matches left."
