Herron prepares for Carrera Cup debut

Andrew Herron will make his Porsche Carrera Cup GB debut at Knockhill (15/16 August), when he takes his prize for being one of the six finalists in the 2009 Carrera Cup Scholarship Programme. The 21 year-old racer from Co Down, Northern Ireland, had hoped to graduate into the Carrera Cup this season, but was thwarted by sponsorship problems. Instead, he reverted to the Renault Clio Cup, where he has again been a front-runner. Andrew is already working on making the step up for 2010 and will use the Knockhill weekend as a learning experience."I'm looking forward to it massively," said Herron. "I've never had as much fun in my life as I did in those 20 laps round Silverstone during the Carrera Cup Scholarship. Racing the car at Knockhill is going to be a bit challenging; it's not the easiest circuit to have your first race in a rear-wheel drive car."With no Renault Clio races at Knockhill, the Scottish track is the logical weekend for Andrew to race in the Carrera Cup. "Knockhill fits in with my Renault Clio programme as I didn’t really want to race both cars in one weekend. I've no major expectations for the weekend. I just want to go out there and enjoy myself."The whole Porsche package is great for sponsors and we're definitely looking to try and do the Carrera Cup next year. That's where I want to be in 2010."
