Accident halts Hendy’s rally charge in Belgium

Steve Hendy was thwarted in his efforts on the recent Flanders Rally after sliding wide on a slippery corner.

Steve and co-driver Aled Davies ended up in a deep ditch and despite the efforts of spectators were unable to get back onto the road and rejoin the event.

The pair had been recording top ten times before the incident on the second day of competition and were disappointed not to complete the event.

“The Focus WRC and the Hankook tyres were working brilliantly in the conditions and we were really enjoying some tough competition. Our times were good and the combination of stages at night and during the day makes it an extremely good event,’’ said Steve.

“It wasn’t a particularly fast corner but there was gravel on the road and it proved extremely slippery.’’

Despite the disappointment of the weekend Steve and Aled are now gearing up for another foray abroad and are now planning an Autumn event in the Hendy Focus WRC.

“The car has some damage but much of it is superficial so we are keen to get back out there as soon as practical,’’ said Steve.
