Organisers of Singapore’s Formula One Grand Prix have enlisted top international music stars including Beyonce Knowles, No Doubt, Black Eyed Peas, Travis, Simple Minds, ZZ Top and Chaka Khan to ensure the race is a major attraction in its second year.
The stars will perform at a three-day festival – called F1 Rocks Singapore – running alongside the Grand Prix, designed to boost ticket sales during the economic downturn.
DJs – including members of US band Backstreet Boys – will also perform inside the circuit area after the race has finished.
Tickets for the event are being sold at a high price – a basic will cost 500 Singapore dollars (US$354), rising to 12,000 dollars for a VIP ticket.
An exclusive lounge for drivers will be hosted by European socialite and TV presenter Tamara Ecclestone, F1 supremo Bernie Ecclestone's daughter.
"It's about time Singapore had a taste of real Grand Prix glamour and The Official Formula 1 Lounge will enhance the overall appeal of our night race," said Michel Lu, director of the Stereolab dance club that is hosting the event.
