MCL Motorhomes British Hillclimb Championship

Rounds 33 & 34: Doune, 26/27 September

Scott Moran and Trevor Willis won the last run-offs of the 2009 whilst four-times Scottish Hillclimb Champion Jonathan Rarity was the star of the weekend with his best ever MSA Championship performance in the Mark Hutcheson-built MH Ghost.

Willis had spun out of round 33 qualifying but fitted a new set of tyres for the last run-off and won with a time that Scott Moran could not match. The Morans were again plagued by the same gearbox troubles as at Prescott and had to start in second gear in both rounds, but were not hampered much.

Novice hillclimber and ex-TKM karter Lee Adams made his British Championship debut in the brand-new Raptor built by twice British Champion Graeme Wight Jr and he stunned spectators with sixth place in his first ever run-off but was sidelined by an oil leak later.

The battle for the last three top ten places of 2009 went down to the last few runs of the year with Force-Suzuki driver Will Hall snatching eighth place overall from the absent Deryk Young with five points from the final run-off. Eynon Price could not match Hall’s performance but still took championship tenth. For the first time ever two motorcycle powered cars have finished in the annual championship top ten.

Paul Haimes failed in his bid to retain his 2008 number 10 when clutch failure prevented him starting in the final run-off but won the class based MSA Hillclimb Leaders Championship for the second time since his initial 2001 victory.
