Team Rosberg clinches second place at Le Castellet

At the penultimate round of the FIA GT3 Championship at Le Castellet, France, César Campaniço and Nicolas Armindo in the Audi R8 LMS of Team Rosberg finished the second race as the runners-up. Their team-mates Jiří Navrátil and Paulo Bonifacio in the second Audi R8 LMS took seventh place. After a good start from position seven on the grid César Campaniço in the Audi R8 LMS designated as car #32 made up several positions, was initially running in sixth place and then defended fifth up to the drivers’ change. His team colleague Nicolas Armindo, who took over the cockpit, fought a captivating duel with an Aston Martin in which he prevailed. Shortly before race end he was battling with a Corvette, passed the rival and secured second place. The first race of the fifth race weekend of the FIA GT3 European Championship at Le Castellet ended after numerous accidents. At the start to the 60-minute race heavy rain suddenly set in. Some of the drivers of cars fitted with tread-less slicks lost control, spun and crashed into rivals. Nicolas Armindo was overtaken at the start by a Morgan that had shortcut the chicane. In the ensuing duel both cars got off the track. When they were driving side by side on the tarmac again Nicolas Armindo touched the Morgan which the race stewards classified as unfair driving. The Frenchman was disqualified from the race. For the second Audi R8 LMS of Team Rosberg the race was over even before the accident when the Czech Jiří Navrátil had to pit on the first lap due to an electronics problem. "We’re very happy with second place, César and Nicolas did a super job in the second race,” commented Team Manager Peter Reinisch. "We couldn’t have achieved a better result on account of our weight handicap because the lighter Ford running at the front is almost two seconds faster per lap.” Just three weeks from now, the season finale of the FIA GT3 Championship at Zolder, the Netherlands, will be on the schedule. "There, we’ll be in for a large field since the cars of the Belgian GT Championship, which enjoy more freedom based on the regulations, compete in the same race, albeit without scoring points,” said Reinisch. Team Rosberg’s goal has been clearly defined. "Nicolas Armindo and César Campaniço are the runners-up in the championship with a three-point gap. At Zolder we want to fight for the title,” said Peter Reinisch. "The chances are good. Unfortunately, we’re lacking important points from the first race at Le Castellet because of a slip of the driver.”
