Team Rosberg in thrilling FIA GT3 European Championship finale

The FIA GT3 European Championship can look forward to a dream finale at Zolder between 23 and 25 October, and Team Rosberg is one of the main contenders: Only three-and-a-half points separate Nicolas Armindo and César Campaniço from the championship lead in their Audi R8 LMS, the closest challengers are another three points behind the French-Portuguese Team Rosberg driver pairing. A total of 15 drivers even have a mathematical chance of scooping the sportscar series title on the sixth and final race weekend. "Whether mechanic, engineer or driver; it goes without saying that we will do everything possible to take the spoils,” stresses the 27-year old Frenchman Armindo. "Our immediate rivals from Team Phoenix already know the circuit from the Belgian GT3 series. I’ll start for the first time at Zolder and I am fully motivated. Team Rosberg has given me a fantastic opportunity this year to fight for the title. I’m absolutely convinced that the championship will be decided at the last corners of the final race. No single team has got through the entire season unscathed, so the fight will go down to the wire.” The championship situation is in fact unusual: During the first five race weekends as many as 100 points were awarded to the best driver combinations, the two leading drivers Christopher Mies and Christopher Haase are currently credited with only 40.5 points. Armindo and Campaniço have 37 points after only one team bagged more points than Team Rosberg recently in France. Twenty points are still to be awarded for the victorious teams at Zolder. No less than 52 drivers have scored points since the opening race in May. "We’ve had to fight hard for every single point up to now,” summarises the 29-year old César Campaniço. "I know the Zolder track very well. Qualifying alone will be very crucial because we drive together with the Belgian GT3 runners in a huge field and there will be loads of traffic. Quite honestly I hope it rains because we are then a little stronger with the Audi R8 LMS.”As usual, Jiří Navrátil and Paulo Bonifacio will drive the second Audi R8 LMS. With their seventh position last time out at Le Castellet the pair collected their first two points. The Czech-Brazilian driver combination also hopes to shine at the final and finish the season on a high note.Ten extremely intensive days are on the agenda for Team Boss Arno Zensen and his entire team: The team competes with two Audi R8 LMS at the ADAC GT Masters at Oschersleben between the 16 and 18 October. After a short break for maintenance work those two cars compete in the title battle at the FIA GT3 European Championship round in Belgium between 23 and 25 October. Parallel to this date Audi Sport Team Rosberg contests the DTM finale at Hockenheim. "Soon the final flag will be waved to finish a particularly intensive motorsport season for our team,” explains Arno Zensen. "Now we refocus and concentrate one final time on the crucial week. The team spirit is excellent, drivers and team are well prepared. Now we just need a little bit of luck to end a successful debut season with the Audi R8 LMS in the GT3 European Championship with a good result.”
